Mayor won't rule out a 'congestion charge'

BRISTOL'S elected mayor George Ferguson says he would not rule out the introduction of a congestion charge in the city.

Speaking to The Post in his first interview of the new year, Mr Ferguson would not dismiss charging motorists to drive in to the centre of town as part of a "carrot and stick" approach to getting more people on to buses.

Summer traffic 'lowest for a decade'

SUMMER traffic on the roads fell to the lowest level for more than a decade, with poor weather and the attraction of the Olympics possibly to blame, provisional Government figures have shown.

Motor vehicle traffic was 1% lighter in summer 2012 (July to September) than in the same period last year, the Department for Transport (DfT) statistics showed.

This summer's levels were the lowest for this particular period since 2001 and came despite an increase in motorway and rural A-road traffic.

'Holiday traffic' season starts today

WHILE Britain welcomes Olympics arrivals, around two million people will be heading abroad at the start of the school holidays this weekend.

And for those taking breaks in the UK, there was a promise of better weather, with conditions expected to be warmer, drier and sunnier.

The AA warned that major road routes were likely to be busy from mid-afternoon today.

Southmead Test Route - Sylvan Way/Coombe Dingle - temporary traffic lights

Absolute nightmare.  A 4 way traffic light system is in place for god only knows what, and the lights arent working.  Heading from the A4, back towards the test centre the lights are stuck on red.  Everyone is jumping them, doing turns in the road and all sorts of other random things.  The lights going the other way are out completely, so they are essentially jumping them too.  There are lights on ither side too, but I'm unsure as to what is going on with them.
