A survey conducted by the AA has revealed that over three quarters of motorists would back the sale of the UK's motorways and trunk roads to reduce the Government's financial deficit.

However, 82 percent of the 19,000 AA members who took part in the survey would not back the sale if the new owner of the road network instigated toll charging.
