PETROL prices have fallen but drivers are still being short-changed, according to the AA. Average petrol prices have gone down from 138.95p a litre in mid October to 135.08p now, with diesel dropping from 143.74p a litre to 141.89p. But the fall in wholesale petrol prices across Europe should have knocked UK pump prices down by 10p to 11p a litre, the AA said. The AA added that despite the threat of an Office of Fair Trading (OFT) investigation of the road fuel market, "conditions that led to dr... Continue reading ...

HUNDREDS of supermarket filling stations will be offering cheaper fuel from today. Asda led the way by announcing a 2p cut in petrol and diesel, then rival Sainsbury's, followed later by Tesco, said they would be cutting their fuel by "up to 2p a litre". Asda said its reductions would mean motorists paying no more than 131.7p a litre for petrol and 137.7p a litre for diesel. Asda petrol trading director Andy Peake said: "Today's move shows that we are once again leading the way in reducing the p... Continue reading ...
Fuel duty rise 'may be deferred'
Posted by Will Dracott on Thursday, November 1, 2012,
A PLANNED 3p rise in fuel duty stands a 70% chance of being deferred, a campaigner said today after crunch talks with the Treasury. The Government agreed to meet officials from the FairFuelUK group who had given them a report by the National Institute for Economic and Social Research. The study says January's rise could lead to 35,000 job losses and a 0.1% cut in economic growth. As a result of the predicted job losses and damage to growth, the tax hike would only bring in just over half the exp... Continue reading ...
3p fuel price hike 'risks 35,000 jobs'
Posted by Will Dracott on Wednesday, October 31, 2012,
THE GOVERNMENT’S 3p-a-litre rise in fuel duty planned for January could lead to 35,000 job losses, campaigners said today. The rise could also see a 0.1% cut in economic growth, the report prepared for the FairFuelUK group said. As a result of the job losses and damage to growth, the tax increase will only bring in just over half the expected extra tax revenue - £800 million rather than £1.5 billion, said the report. Produced by the National Institute for Economic and Social Research, the re... Continue reading ...

Petrol prices could rise by as much as eight percent in

Industry Independent Petrol Retailers Association (RMI Petrol). Oil price hikes and currency movements have been blamed for the impending rise. RMI
Petrol reckons that average petrol prices could reach 125.9 pence in
early 2011, blitzing the current record of 121.6 pence. That figure
includes the rise in VAT and the Government's planned fuel duty hike. The organisation... Continue reading ...

When it comes to the price of fuel, you’re actually
better off if you live up North!
Let’s face it, there’s always been a bit of friendly rivalry between
the north and south of England, with each region believing it’s better

further – in the form of petrol prices.
In fact, according to research from the AA, if you live in the north
you’re far likely to get a better deal on your fuel than if you live in ... Continue reading ...

fall in the long term. Right now petrol prices are dropping a touch but
most experts predict further rises as inevitable. In these difficult
