This has to be the story of the month. The government has launched a full sale inquiry into alleged oil price fixing by BP and Shell. They could have been manipulating data for as long as ten years, to push the price of fuel up at the pumps. It's risen 60% in the past few years, even though the government has both frozen and cut fuel duty. This is something that effects everyone in the UK, even if you don't drive. So what should the punishment be if found guilty? Free fuel for a... Continue reading ...

He undertook the 294 mile, Shell backed mission in the the new VW Golf Bluemotion, averaging an impressive 78.1mpg. It's the kind of figures that all drivers want to achieve (especially us driving schools) and many teams have invested heavily in wining the competition so to take part in European leg of the world Eco-Marathon, starting today i... There are rumors that the fuel duty rise due to come in next week could be scrapped after the chancellor receives grief from everyone with a car. Not only does the Government get the fuel duty from petrol and diesel but it gets 20% VAT on the actual cost as well as the duty. I think they earn enough out of us motorists, don't you? Let us know your thoughts Bristol. Should all drivers be taxed again? Is it a crime to want to drive? Continue reading ...

AA blasts fuel prices despite fall

Motoring news
PETROL prices have fallen but drivers are still being short-changed, according to the AA. Average petrol prices have gone down from 138.95p a litre in mid October to 135.08p now, with diesel dropping from 143.74p a litre to 141.89p. But the fall in wholesale petrol prices across Europe should have knocked UK pump prices down by 10p to 11p a litre, the AA said. The AA added that despite the threat of an Office of Fair Trading (OFT) investigation of the road fuel market, "conditions that led to dr... Continue reading ...

Asda said its reductions would mean motorists paying no more than 131.7p a litre for petrol and 137.7p a litre for diesel. Asda petrol trading director Andy Peake said: "Today's move shows that we are once again leading the way in reducing the p... Continue reading ...

Motoring news
AS MANY as 300,000 vehicles a year in the UK suffer a mis-fuelling mishap, and only half of owners, 150,000, are able to claim the cost back on their insurance, according to a survey. New figures from Halfords has revealed more drivers than ever are mixing up diesel and petrol at the pumps and filling up with the wrong fuel. They suffer a hefty bill to get their cars back on the road which can vary from £500 up to £3000. The increasingly common gaffe has come as many motorists switch from pet... Continue reading ...
Fuel duty rise 'may be deferred'
Posted by Will Dracott on Thursday, November 1, 2012,
A PLANNED 3p rise in fuel duty stands a 70% chance of being deferred, a campaigner said today after crunch talks with the Treasury. The Government agreed to meet officials from the FairFuelUK group who had given them a report by the National Institute for Economic and Social Research. The study says January's rise could lead to 35,000 job losses and a 0.1% cut in economic growth. As a result of the predicted job losses and damage to growth, the tax hike would only bring in just over half the exp... Continue reading ...
3p fuel price hike 'risks 35,000 jobs'
Posted by Will Dracott on Wednesday, October 31, 2012,
THE GOVERNMENT’S 3p-a-litre rise in fuel duty planned for January could lead to 35,000 job losses, campaigners said today. The rise could also see a 0.1% cut in economic growth, the report prepared for the FairFuelUK group said. As a result of the job losses and damage to growth, the tax increase will only bring in just over half the expected extra tax revenue - £800 million rather than £1.5 billion, said the report. Produced by the National Institute for Economic and Social Research, the re... Continue reading ...

An Introduction to Natural Gas as a Fuel
Posted by Will Dracott on Sunday, May 9, 2010,
Although Europe is unlikely to ever rely solely on natural gas for
fuelling vehicles, the use of this abundant resource could in part
alleviate the demand on fossil fuels. In other parts of the world,
notably Asia, natural gas based fuels are dominant, with the government
mandating its use in certain transport sectors. You may be
familiar with LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) or Autogas. It has been
around for a while. Many older, large capacity cars have been converted
to run on LPG in ... Continue reading ...
