AIRFIX has given its blessing to the amazing life-size model Aston Martin DBR1 that is set to be auctioned at the Goodwood Revival this weekend.

The model, made by British firm Evanta Motor Company in the style of an Airfix model kit, without official Airfix backing but with painstaking attention to detail, has been lauded by the model manufacturer’s management.

Darrell Burge, Airfix Marketing Manager, said, “We’re huge fans of the creativity and design that was shown to create the Aston Martin DBR1 replica in the form of an Airfix set. As well as being a fitting homage to the classic 1959 Le Mans winning car it is also a celebration of British engineering and ingenuity, marrying the Airfix design with the car.”

“We’re sure it will cause quite a stir when the replica goes up for auction at Goodwood this weekend and will make a fantastic acquisition for any racing enthusiast. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for it when we’re there.”

At 6.35 metres wide and 3.4 metres tall it’s not something for the average living room, but it does collapse into two more easily transportable pieces.

Evanta Managing Director Ant Anstead said: "Astons Martin’s sole Le Mans win of 1959 is a huge part of British motorsport. The loss of both drivers and Ted Cutting within the same year is saddening.

“We wanted to do a tribute to these three great men and such a beautiful and iconic car. What could be a more fun and fitting tribute than every boy’s dream toy: a life-size model?"

Built in the traditional style of an Airfix model in the correct ‘satin grey’ and featuring individually labelled components along with Airfix tags, each fixing point tapers to the Aston Martin item as if you could twist it off for assembly.

It is to be displayed at the Goodwood Revival this year and then auctioned by Bonhams during the same weekend, with a guide price of £25,000.
